Measure the span of wall where the awning will mount. Allow a few extra inches (~6 inches) on each side for trim, lighting, or gutters.
2. Projection (Depth)
Check how far you want shade to reach across the deck. For full coverage, plan for the awning to extend several feet past your seating or dining area. Most decks use 8 to 14 feet.
3. Mounting Height
Measure from the deck boards to where the awning will attach. A higher mount allows for the right slope and smooth rain runoff. Roof brackets are available if extra height is needed.
4. Obstacles
Look for railings, lights, or downspouts that could affect placement. Sharing a few photos helps us design around them.
