When You Build for RVs, Homes Come Second.
Solera is brand new to the home awning market. Their parent company, Lippert, is one of the largest RV component suppliers in North America, building everything from slide-out mechanisms to chassis frames. The Solera awning line started on motorhomes, and now they are trying to sell the same concept to homeowners. But Solera has zero verified customer reviews, no track record in residential awnings, and no proven installation network.
An awning built for a vehicle on the highway faces very different demands than one permanently mounted to your home. Solera’s semi cassette housing leaves your motor and fabric partially exposed to the elements, their solar only motor limits power and reliability, and their two frame color options barely scratch the surface of true customization.
Marygrove has spent the last 90+ years doing one thing better than anyone: building the best retractable awnings in the industry. Our in house installation teams, smart app integration, and customizable designs set us apart from companies trying to repurpose RV products for homes.
From an inquiry response callback at 8pm to an install just two days later, I could not be happier with the Marygrove service or product. Jeff was great to work with, providing helpful insight and available options. Wish I would have done this sooner. Very happy and highly recommend Marygrove!

Warranty and Durability
Marygrove backs its fabric with a 10 year pro-rated fabric warranty covering excessive fading, cracking, or peeling under normal use.
Marygrove offers:
- 10-Year Limited Warranty on Fabric
- 10 Year Warranty on Motors
- 1 Year Warranty on Accessories
Solera advertises a 10 year warranty, but the fine print tells a different story. Their fabric coverage is prorated after year 6, dropping to just 25% in the final two years. Their motor is only covered for 5 years, and the warranty is issued through Furrion, a Lippert subsidiary, not Solera directly. When a motor fails in year 8, you want a dedicated motor warranty from the company that built it, not prorated fine print from a subsidiary you have never heard of.

Installation and Service
Marygrove’s award winning service team handles every installation directly, and we are recognized nationally for the fastest installation times in the industry. Solera relies on “factory trained” installation teams rather than their own employees, and they are still building out their service network with coverage in only three metro areas. When your installer does not work directly for the manufacturer, accountability gaps show up fast, and you end up coordinating between the company that built it and the crew that installed it.
Choosing Marygrove means a smooth and efficient installation process from start to finish.
Feature Comparison
Technology and Innovation
Marygrove Awnings leads the market with features like a proprietary retractable pitch for ideal shade and rain shielding, a reinforced lateral arm system using durable cables over the more common chains found in competitor products, and a fully integrated housing that protects your motor, arms, and fabric from the elements when retracted. Solera’s semi cassette design leaves the motor, arms, and fabric exposed when retracted, and their solar powered motor introduces reliability concerns that a hardwired system simply does not have. Our smart awnings adapt to your lifestyle. Equipped with an Advanced Weather Alert System, they respond to real time weather changes and automatically adjust to protect against sudden shifts. Whether the sun is out or the wind picks up, you can relax knowing your awning is looking out for you. Paired with integrated wind sensors and ambient LED lighting included at no extra cost, Marygrove Awnings make every moment outdoors safer, brighter, and more enjoyable. Solera does not include LED lighting with their awning and sells it as a separate accessory.

Not even close. Solera’s “10 year warranty” is misleading. The fabric warranty is heavily prorated: 100% coverage for years 1 through 6, dropping to 50% in years 7 and 8, then just 25% in years 9 and 10. The motor warranty is only 5 years, the frame finish warranty is only 5 years, and labor and installation costs are never covered. All weather related damage is explicitly excluded, meaning if rain or wind causes any issue, you are on your own. The warranty is also non transferable and issued through Furrion, a Lippert subsidiary, not through Solera or Lippert directly.
Marygrove backs its fabric with a 10-year limited warranty covering excessive fading, cracking, or peeling under normal use. Labor is covered for the first year. Marygrove also offers a 10-year warranty on motors and a 1-year warranty on accessories, all backed directly by the company that built your awning. No motor warranty shell games, no weather exclusions. When something goes wrong, you deal with Marygrove, not a subsidiary.
Yes. Solera’s motor runs entirely on solar power, which sounds appealing until the battery dies on a cloudy week. According to their own maintenance guide, a fully depleted battery needs 3 full days of direct sunlight to recover. If the weather does not cooperate, you are stuck with a manual USB-C charge that takes about 4 hours. Their parent company Lippert has a long history of battery and motor complaints from RV owners, with one owner stating the battery system “totally sucks and has never worked properly.”
Marygrove’s hardwired motor delivers consistent, reliable power rain or shine, with no battery to maintain, no solar panel to clean, and no 3 day recovery waiting period.
No. As of 2026, Solera’s home awning line has zero verified customer reviews on Google, Yelp, or any major review platform. Lippert itself is not BBB accredited, and carries a 1.8 star rating on PissedConsumer from over 70 reviews. Solera is a new company in the residential space, still figuring out how to sell and install home awnings. The only Solera awning feedback online comes from RV owners, where recurring complaints include battery system failures, arms collapsing during light rain, and warranty claims denied as “weather related.”
Marygrove has over 1,600 verified 5 star reviews from real homeowners, backed by 90+ years of proven residential awning experience. When you are investing thousands of dollars in your home, a company’s track record should speak for itself.
Solera’s home awning installation is currently limited to just three metro areas: Detroit, Grand Rapids, and Chicago. They are a new operation still building out their installation teams and figuring out logistics. Their website describes the product as “engineered for the Midwest climate,” which raises questions about how it performs in hotter, colder, or more humid regions.
Marygrove services homeowners across 20+ states with our own in house installation crews. We have been installing awnings in every climate condition for over 90 years. Our teams are Marygrove employees, not contractors, meaning you get consistent quality and direct accountability from the company that built your awning.
