1. Width
Measure the wall span where the awning will mount, edge to edge. Leave about 6 inches of clearance on each side for lights, trim, or downspouts.
2. Projection (Depth)
Measure from the wall straight out to the far edge of your seating. Choose a projection that reaches 2 to 3 feet past the furniture for full midday shade. Most patios use 8 to 14 feet.
3. Mounting Height
Measure from the patio surface to the planned mounting point. Aim for 7’6″ to 8′ or higher so the awning can slope 7 to 10 degrees for rain run-off. If headroom is tight, roof-mount brackets solve it.
4. Obstacles
Note sconces, cameras, vents, gutters, or uneven surfaces. A few photos help us plan brackets and clearances.
