How to Measure Your Porch
DIY measuring helps planning—our team will verify everything during your free in-home measure.
1. Width
Measure the full span where the awning will mount (trim-to-trim). Leave ~6 in clearance each side for lights, downspouts, or trim.
2. Projection (Depth)
Choose 8–14 ft based on furniture layout; aim for ~3 ft beyond seating for full shade at midday.
3. Mounting Height
Target 7 ft 6 in–8 ft+ to allow proper slope (≈7–10°) for rain run-off. If tight, consider roof-mount brackets.
4. Obstacles
Note fixtures, cameras, vents, gutters, or uneven surfaces; photos help.
5. Pro Verification
We confirm exact measurements, bracket style, and HOA needs on-site.

Frequently Asked Questions
Porch and patio awnings often refer to where an awning is installed versus the a specific difference in the awning functionality itself. Our retractable awnings are the same product that can be used for a porch, patio, or deck application.
Most porch awning installations are finished within 3 to 4 hours. Because everything is measured and custom-built ahead of time, our in-house team can install quickly with minimal disruption.
With porches, sizing depends on how much coverage you want. Awnings can be fitted to span the full width of your porch or just a section of it. Projection is typically shorter than with patios since porches already have some built-in cover. Our design experts measure your space and recommend dimensions that give the right balance of shade and airflow.
Marygrove awnings are tested to hold steady in winds up to 20–25 mph. Each motorized system comes with a wind sensor that automatically retracts the awning if gusts rise, giving you added protection without having to think about it.
The solution-dyed fabric resists fading and mildew. To keep it fresh, rinse occasionally with a garden hose or spot-clean with mild soap and water. No scrubbing or harsh chemicals are necessary. We have a more thorough guide available here.
Yes. Many porches face HOA rules on street-facing additions. We’ll provide all required product specs, drawings, and fabric samples so you can move through the approval process quickly and confidently. Check out our condo awnings page for more info.
Every Marygrove porch awning is backed by a 10-year warranty on the frame, arms, fabric, and motor. And because we handle service in-house, you’re covered without having to coordinate with third-party contractors.
